Gridely run in the snow

I often hear horror stories of runners, or used to be runners, and their pangs of fitness. Does running have to be that hard? I think not, but the runner has to be smart about what her body is telling her.

If it hurts, slow down. Does it still hurt? Try walking fast instead of running. And if it still hurts, slow down some more. You’re still moving, and when the ground finally is moving faster than you, rest for a minute, then start running again.

As the pains go away, smartly increase your workout.

Listen to your body - it is seldom wrong.

I run for the joy of moving. If I need to speed up then I will try to move faster and when I need to slow the pace, I gladly relent.

The race I am running in is for life. It’s not a sprint but an ultra marathon. I am not running as fast as I can, I am pacing myself so I am still strong at the finish.

Listen to your feet, ankles, shins, knees, hamstrings, quads, hips, back, and heart. What are they telling you? Exercise accordingly.
