Rock Climbing

Breathing

I have a friend who used to enjoy weight lifting. The exercise made him stronger; but also gave him bad habits. When he made a lift, he would hold his breath.

When my weight lifting friend rock climbed, he brought his weight lifting breathing habits with him. He would hold his breath when trying hard moves. On completing the move, he panted like a horse in the derby. I could always tell how hard the move was by how hard he breathed after the move.

An NPR article suggests that breathing cures just about all that ails you. So the next time you are hanging from a cliff by your finger tips and about to make a risky move, remember to breathe. Breathing helps you to relax and stay under control. Save the holding your breath for when you are swimming underwater.

Explorer Killed

A South African explorer, Hendrik Coetzee, was killed in the Congo when "a crocodile snatched him from his kayak while he led an American expedition from the source of the White Nile into the heart of Congo".
