Tent only campground?!
Blasphemy! The law of the campground is the sites must be bigger. The RVs are getting bigger and the sites must be bigger to accommodate them. Electricity, water, and sewage are a must for any modern campground. Then, what about cable tv and internet? Oh, and don't forget the dump stations and pull through sites. And then what about ...
Longs Peak Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park and Jenny Lake Campground in Tetons National Park are both tent only campgrounds. Neither take reservations. No electricity, sewage, or television is available. Both campgrounds only have one bathroom. The only amenity is water; but then not at every site, just at central locations.
So then, who on earth would anyone camp at these spartan campgrounds? Lots of folks. Both campgrounds are consistently in demand and remain full. In fact, it is very difficult to even get a site. Despite the trends of moving toward bigger and better campgrounds, these campgrounds buck the trend.
Have Park planners missed something? Are there people who actually want to sleep in a tent, away from the sounds of RV generators?
If Jenny Lake and Longs Peak could talk, they would say, unmistakably, yes.
Happy tent campground trails.
