Richland Creek Greenway

The Times Daily (North Alabama news source) ran an article on hiking trails in north Alabama. They list the Walls of Jericho. I have been wanting to do the trail. Maybe we will get to it this fall.

Tuesday, I commented about the fast food king McDonalds. Interesting enough another good McD's article came up...

A reporter stored a standard burger and fries in the refrigerator. Six months later the food had not molded or rotted in any way. In fact the food looked like it had just come off the assembly line. Just think of how nutritious that food must be for you.

Live Science reports, "Exercise Doesn't Make Up For Kids' Screen Time". The story, a result of a study of 10 and 11 year old British children, said researchers found:

"that regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, or whether a child had hit puberty, more than two hours a day in front of a TV or computer was associated with more emotional and behavioral difficulties. Most importantly, the connection between screen time and psychological problems held, regardless of how much overall physical activity the kids engaged in."

So no matter how hard the children played it did not overcome the problems associated with screen time. The main problem is - almost every child today has at least two hours of screen time each day. Two hours might even be a low number.

The answer, to avoid the emotional and behavioral difficulties, was to turn off the screens. I guess experiencing life is better than watching someone else experience it for you.

Remember the story about the police man who was killed riding his bike? Well a bit of an update - from The Republic, (Columbus, Indiana newspaper) the woman who killed the bicyclist was a critical care nurse. "Her lawyer has said she was distracted by one of her children and didn't stop because she panicked."

She was a critical care nurse!

A distraction doesn't absolve killing.

There was a block concert in Nashville last night. Darius Rucker and others performed. The odd thing about the concert was that is was located near the Roundabout on Demonbreun St - 2 miles (as the crow flies) from our house; but we could still hear the music! The volume must have been unbearably loud at the concert. Welcome to Music City USA!
